Overview

Where most insurers only offer a single income protection plan, we offer three - each designed to suit different people. We think this cover is simply too important for you to have to compromise.

Pure Protection offers long-term cover for almost all occupations - we never change the premium you pay based on what you do for a living.

Income One offers long-term cover for those in low risk, mainly office based occupations. You can choose guaranteed premiums that stay level throughout your plan or increase with your age, to suit your budget.

Bills & Things is a simple, low cost plan with no financial underwriting during your application or when you claim. Unlike comprehensive income protection, with Bills & Things you only have two decisions to make to start your cover.

At The Exeter, we have simplified our income protection plans and the way we describe them, so you can be confident in your cover and understand exactly what it offers you.

Ultimately, we judge the success of our income protection on one thing – did it deliver when our members needed it, with paid claims? We’re proud of our record on paying claims, and we were the first insurer to go public and publish our claims data in 2005, and have done so every year since then.

Pure Protection

Pure Protection

Pure Protection is the benchmark income protection plan if you work in manual, physical occupations and skilled trades.

For other insurers, this sector is often an afterthought, but at The Exeter we know just how important it is to provide quality cover for people who are dependent on their health and fitness to be able to work and earn an income.

Key Benefits

  • Cover from day 1, along with a range of waiting periods
Our day 1 cover option means a claim could be paid after you have been off work for just 3 consecutive days - we will then backdate the claim to the first day you were absent from work due to illness or injury.
  • An own occupation definition for all, forever
No matter what you do for a living, if you are covered by Pure Protection, when we assess a claim, we will only look at the impact an illness or injury is having on your ability to do your own job.
  • Affordable age-costed premiums
With Pure Protection your premiums begin cheaper and rise with age - a structure which helps many people with tight budgets buy protection they couldn’t otherwise afford.
  • No standard policy exclusions
We think income protection should be designed to be used, so there are no exclusions to cover that might surprise you when you make a claim.

We have just introduced a number of enhancements to Pure Protection, designed to make it even more flexible and affordable.

  • Cover for longer
Pure Protection now offers an increased maximum finishing age up to 70.
  • 2 year maximum claim period
If long term cover doesn’t suit your budget, you can now select a Limited Claim Period of 2 years for each individual claim.
  • Benefit Fix
Our benefit fix option gives you greater reassurance and a simpler claims process – it's perfect for people with a fluctuating income.

Income One

Income One

Income One is bespoke cover if you work in a professional, low risk or administrative occupation.

Income One lets you choose between age-costed guaranteed and level guaranteed premiums, which means you can choose between premiums that begin lower and increase with age or start higher but remain constant over the policy.

Key Benefits

  • Cover from day 1, along with a range of waiting periods
Our day 1 cover option means a claim could be paid after you have been off work for just 3 consecutive days - we will then backdate the claim to the first day you were absent from work due to illness or injury.
  • Choice of level guaranteed or age-costed guaranteed premiums
Some people like certainty, some want premiums to always be as low as possible to begin with. With Income One, you can choose a premium structure that’s right for you – level premiums start higher and stay the same, whereas age-costed premiums are cheaper to begin with, but increase with age.
  • Benefit fix option – up to 50% of income
The benefit fix option means for a little more information when you apply, you can buy with even more certainty and confidence when you come to claim.
  • Range of guaranteed insurability options
Income One is flexible, giving you a range of guaranteed options to increase or suspend cover – because life changes, and so should your income protection too.
  • Cover for longer
Income One now offers an increased maximum finishing age up to 70.

Bills & Things

Bills & Things

Bills & Things is entry-level income protection, which is so simple there are just two decisions for you to make – how much benefit do you want each month and what maximum claim period do you need – 1 or 2 years.

Key Benefits

  • We only look at your own occupation
No matter what you do for a living, if you are covered by Bills & Things, when we assess a claim, we will only look at the impact an illness or injury is having on your ability to do your own job. Some insurers use different, tougher criteria to assess claims, but we think this is the only way to do it.
  • No link to income, so no risk of over insurance
Bills & Things lets you choose the benefit that’s right for you (from £500 to £1,000 per month) regardless of your income – this isn’t always the case with other income protection policies.
  • Premiums from just £11.50 per month
If you think protection insurance is expensive, think again. With premiums that start from just £11.50 per month, Bills & Things brings quality income protection to people with lower disposable incomes - who often have a great need for cover.
